🕰️ Thoughts on clocks and modern living…
OK, so this is a weird one. 🤔
On Monday I picked up an old watch of mine that had been given a spruce-up and service. While I was there, I took in another watch, less than a year old, because it was losing time. ⌚
I assumed it was the battery.
Nope.
Turns out the watch had become magnetised. 🧲 The clock specialist ran it through a demagnetising machine and, just like that, it works perfectly again.
Now, in all my years, I have NEVER heard of this happening. So naturally I had to ask:
How the hell does a watch get magnetised?! 😂
Apparently, modern life is absolutely swimming in potential sources: phone and tablet cases 📱, laptop speakers 💻, wireless chargers, magnetic clasps on bags and jewellery, headphones 🎧, speakers 🔊... even strong fridge magnets. 🧲
Which got me thinking…
If all these things can interfere with a watch, what are they doing to us? 🤔
And perhaps the question I like even more:
Why does my 61-year-old watch seem better equipped to deal with the modern world than the one that’s less than a year old? 😂⌚🕰️
No, I don’t have an answer.
But I’d genuinely love to hear what you think… 💭👇
