Thoughts on Parents, Birds π¦ and FOMO β¨
When I was living in Australia, I used to pop home and stay with my Dad. β€οΈ
Every morning, without fail, weβd be 'up with the birds' π
...or, as Dad used to call it, βsparrowβs fart.β π
The birds would be chirping outside, Dad would be banging around the house, music playing, getting himself ready for the day...
And Iβd be lying there thinking...and eventually yelling:
"Dad! Keep the bloody noise down!β π
I genuinely could not understand why the hell anyone would 'choose' to be awake before daybreak.
Fast-forward a few thousand years...
One of my own kids was staying with me recently and I got:
βWhy do you make SO much noise in the morning?!β π€¦ββοΈπ
And suddenly... 'I GET IT, DAD.'
I love getting up early now.
This morning I traipsed around taking in the incredible colours of the flowers πΈ, the scenery, the quiet, the stillness... just noticing how incredibly beautiful it all is. πΏβοΈ
There are never enough hours in the day anymore.
Work. Creative projects. Fitness. Ideas. Things I want to make. Places I want to see. People I want to spend time with. πͺπ¨βοΈβ€οΈ
I just have to make it all fit somehow.
Because hereβs the thing...
Unless I somehow make it into the record books as one of the oldest people in the world, 'Iβm already over halfway.' π³
And Iβve got 'SHYTE TO DO.' ππ₯
When I was younger, there was always 'tomorrow'.
βThereβs plenty of time.β
Now?
"I get it."
My Dad had FOMO.
And apparently, Iβve inherited it. β€οΈ
Not FOMO about parties or what everyone else is doing...
FOMO about missing whatever is left of this extraordinary, messy, beautiful "one life Iβve been given." π
So if Iβm banging around the house at sunrise, playing music and annoying my kids...
Sorry, kids. π
"My Dad started it." β€οΈπ¦π
You can probably tell Iβve been read a lot about Stoicism.π
But... it makes a lot of sense to me.
"Memento mori. Remember you will die... so remember to LIVE." β€οΈ
