Some people get super prickly on social media…

Plain Text; Thought bubble… on social etiquette

Some people get super prickly on social media… the way I keep my blood pressure down is by remembering that even if I think I’ve convinced someone of something, if I shout them down or get angry , they might just agree to keep the peace… this idea actually comes from a poem written in 1678

Original (1678):

“He that complies against his will,

Is of his own opinion still.”

— Samuel Butler, Hudibras

Modern version:

“A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still.”

In other words, someone may appear to agree because of pressure or persuasion , but if they haven’t genuinely changed their mind, they still hold the same belief.
