Social Post: Awards & Guinea Pigs
Awards and Guinea Pigs 💭🏆🐹✨
A few things happen in life that you remember forever. Receiving an award is usually one of them. 🌟
Recently, a Gen Z'er was surprised to learn I'd won a couple of music awards back in the day. I received a Tui for Songwriter of the Year for It's My Sin, and also Most Promising Female Artist. (I wasn't all that promising in the end. 🤣🎤) And they weren't even born then. 👶
We didn't dwell on the subject; it wasn't that interesting to them... 🤷♀️ Those awards belonged to my time ⏳, and what is happening in music now belongs to the people making it today. 🎶🔥 I think the best part of awards is being able to say "thank- you" to everyone who helped you get to where you are... and the party. 🎉🥂 After that, they become memories and dust collectors. 💭
Awards are fleeting. ✨ A bit like newspapers. 📰 They're exciting in the moment, then life moves on. 🚶♀️ No one really cares about them after a while except you. 😅 I guess what is important to me now is marking my own essays and creating the best work I can. I don't need anyone telling me something is good... I won't release it into the public arena unless I think it is.
Which brings me to guinea pigs... 🐹
When I was at primary school, I was the classroom animal monitor and was trusted to take the guinea pigs home for the holidays. 🏡 For reasons I don't remember, I decided they needed a bath. 🛁😬 As anyone who has owned guinea pigs knows... that was not my finest idea. 🙈
I carefully dried them, tucked them into the hot water cupboard overnight to keep warm... 🔥🧺 and sadly, they died of fright. 💔🐹
Poor Mum had no idea why it happened. 😳 She had to ring my teacher and explain that the guinea pigs had "gone." 📞😢 I never told anyone what had really happened. 🤐
Then, at prize-giving that year... 🎓✨ I was presented with the award for School's Best Animal Lover. 🏆🐹🌟 Now that is an award I have never forgotten. 😂
How about you? Any awards you remember and want to dust off? 🤔
